Add color to charm your life

Symbolic as the rainbow after a storm, color is the hope of the new world. As color has the power which man has neither fully explored nor exploited.

“Tell me your color preference and I shall tell you your character” is a claim, which is not just vain or empty which can be easily dismissed. Research workers in this sphere assure us that color preferences and prejudices reveal personal disposition and character.

A man is known, by the company that he keeps! No less is he known by the color he prefers. In women, this is even more revealing. Athletes prefer red and the warm tints, intellectuals choose blue, the social worker votes for green, while the egoist shows distinct liking for yellow. Color preference may not be marked in clothes, but watch your friends when they choose their stationery, their pens and pencils, or even their sweets and drinks – you will know something about their character.

Friends who have distinct preferences for purple are said to be worthless in time of need – they will suffer with you, but do nothing to help your distress. Purple is the color of power and these people are often dominating. Neither trust lavender lovers – they brag, boast and bluff! Choose your friends from among those who prefer green, for they are loveable and make reliable friends who know the art of give and take. Red is stimulating color and your companion who like red and orange will provide plenty of fun and jollity.

Colored walls produce physical relations which are distinctly marked. Interior decorators proved this when they decorated walls of a factory canteen in blue. Complains poured in “ The room is too cold”. Then the walls were colored with orange and the chairs and tables covered with the same warm shade. More complains : “The room is too hot”. Next the furniture covers were removed but the walls stayed orange, No complaints further.

Color is also symbolic. The stars and strips flag of the United States of America has red for daring, white for purity and blue for vigilance, perseverance and justice. Green has a deep significance for us in our region. It is the nature’s favorite color and denotes peace, resurrection, youth, immortality and vitality. Green finds prominent place in the color combination flags of our country as well as that of our neighbor Pakistan. The saffron color of the Indian flag denotes the sprit of sacrifice.

Men have borrowed freely from the rainbow to add color to thought and language. From showing the white feather to shunning the black sheep, every shape is represented, for example driving away the blues (gloom); to be in a brown study (day-dreaming or meditating); the green-eyed monster (jealousy); a green hand (inexperienced); caught red-handed (in the act of committing crime with blood-stained knife in hand); red-letter day (happy memorable) etc.

You may have wondered why traffic signs on highway main roads especially are printed in a black on a yellow background or perhaps you have not noticed them at all. Then look out at them when you get out again. The color combination is chosen because experiments indicate this order of legibility for show-cards, posters, traffic signs etc.

The common person knows that red stands for danger; but this color has many psychological uses. If a young lady is feeling low, all she has to do is to put on some bright red bangles or wear a skirt or scarf with red dots – and she is ready for fun and frolic. If a young man is afraid of an interview, he should wear a bright red tie or one with red stripes and his fear will vanish as red instills courage and daring. Let color help you.
