Beef is not my choice of food item but i have so many friends who love this. Since it is one of the favourites of my husband, I started trying my hands on beef dishes too. After so many attempts, at last he appreciated me for this style of beef roast. It is actually an easy to prepare item. Try this, you will also like

Beef Roast – Kerala Style

Ingredients:

  • Beef – 1 kg ( boneless)
  • Ginger – 2” piece, coarsely crushed and chopped
  • Garlic – 2 bulbs, coarsely crushed and chopped
  • Green Chilly – 6-8, coarsely crushed
  • Red chilly powder – 2 tbsp
  • Peppercorns – 1 tbsp, coarsely crushed
  • Turmeric – 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 tbsp
  • Garam masala – 1 tsp (freshly grind cinnamon, clove, and fennel)
  • Coconut oil – 2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste

For Tempering

  • Coconut oil – 1 tbsp
  • Mustard – 1/4 tsp
  • Curry leaves – 2-3 sprigs
  • Dried red chilly halved – 5-6
  • Coconut julienned – 1/4 cup (optional)

Beef Roast – Kerala Style

How to roast the beef?

  • Wash beef in enough water and strain in a colander and squeeze out the extra water from the beef pieces
  • Heat coconut oil in a pressure cooker and fry ginger, garlic, and green chilly
  • Add red chilly powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, pepper and fry till its raw smell disappears
  • Add beef and salt to taste, mix well until all the pieces are coated with the masala
  • Cover and pressure cook for three whistles, and let the pressure settle down
  • Open the lid and dry up the extra gravy over high heat
  • Heat oil in pan or wok, and crackle mustard seeds
  • Add red chilly, curry leaves and coconut pieces
  • Add the extra gravy (if anything is left out) to the pan and let it dry up now
  • Now you can add the cooked beef (check for salt and chilly, if you want you can extra chilly or pepper at this stage)
  • Mix well and cook over simmering heat for 5 mins

Now your beef roast is ready. Enjoy your beef roast with plain rice, chappati or appam.
