Cassata Ice Cream from Hotel Viceroy, Mysore

Cassata Ice cream is my all time favourite. The name itself reminds me of those good old days. I happened to taste it for the first time in 1995 when I went to Veli tourist village in Trivandrum. Then there was a very good restaurant managed by KTDC (Kerala Tourism Development Corporation) and now there is a floating restaurant instead. After that I never got a chance to taste it. At last, after 17 years I found the name Cassata on the menu at Hotel Viceroy.

Earlier Cassata slice was packed in Aluminium foil but now it is available in semi-circled box. One slice doesn’t cost much. It is available for just Rs. 35/- This particular slice had the flavours of mango, vanilla, chocolate and Pistachio. We bought three slices but all the three had the same flavours. I think there is variation in flavours too.

Hotel Viceroy is a two star hotel in Mysore and it is just few meters away from the Mysore Palace. The Hotel is put up in a four-storey building and you can find their restaurant, reception, and washroom in the ground floor. The major advantage of this hotel is that it is very close to the main shopping area. Hotel is providing a moderately good parking space. I never got a chance to stay in the hotel since I am staying just 4 Kms away from the hotel but I have seen many tourists checking in. The hotel is having a good restaurant which provides a variety of food items. We ordered for Chicken Kebab, Fried Vegetables, Mutton Biriyani, vegetable fried rice, and cassata. The food was average but their service was excellent.

The hotel is located on the Sri Harsha Road. It is just near to the Parklane Hotel.
