Elephant is the 2011 Cricket World cup mascot

The mascot, is still to be named, for 2011 Cricket world cup will be an elephant and the world cup cricket will be hosted jointly by India, Srilanka and Bangladesh. The mascot was unveiled at a function in Colombo on 2nd April, 2010. Elephant is becoming the mascot for a sporting event in India after 28 years and earlier which was chosen as the mascot for 1982 Asian Games in New Delhi, named as “Appu” and commonly known among the public as Asiad appu.

The World Cup organisers today announced that cricket fans based in the host nations would be able to participate in a contest to name the mascot. The details pertaining to the consumer contest (address on which to send entries and deadline) will be intimated in due course, said Tournament Director Prof Ratnakar Shetty here today.
