Fourth of July, the Independence Day of United States

July 4, 2011, United States is celebrating its 235th year of Independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. Independence day is the National Day of the United States. Independence Day of United States is popularly known as the Fourth of July and  is also called The Glorious Fourth or The Fourth.

It is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring the independence of 13 colonies from the Kingdom of Great Britain.

The celebrations related to the independence day include the spectacular fireworks, parades, live concerts, games, family fun activities, speeches and many more other festivities.

Statue of Liberty

Statue of Liberty is a symbol of American Independence and Democracy. The statue is a  gift to the United States from the people of France and it was gifted on the October 28, 1886 which is exactly after 110 years of the American Independence.

The Statue represents the Roman Goddess, Libertas, of freedom. The statue is a robed female figure who bears a touch and a tabula ansata (a tablet evoking the law) upon which is inscribed the date of the American Declaration of Independence and a broken chain lies at her feet.

The Statue of Liberty was the idea of Edouard Rene de Laboulaye, French law professor and politician, and it was designed by Frederic Bartholdi. The Statue is erected in the Liberty Island. Now it is the icon of the freedom of United States.
