You should be updated with the latest happenings in the industry that you are working. You need to keep yourself updated with the latest news and views from other experts. You can create some Google Alerts with the keywords and keep yourself updated. You should also subscribe to the blogs on similar topics, Google reader is a suggested tool for this purpose. Commenting on blogs or discussions will also help you in getting noticed by others in similar profession.
