Maldives Government not planning to arrest Gayoom

There was a wide spread news that the Ex-president of Maldives would be arrested, but its clarified by the Foreign minister Dr. Ahmed Shaheed has confirmed that this will not happen.

The International community is also assured that such act will not be done by the current Government.

Dr. Shaheed who also served former President Gayoom as foreign minister said such talks on an impending arrest of the former President are being floated by the opposition to pave way for public unrest and dissent. Claiming that the speculations are unfounded, foreign minister asserted that even the international community has been assured that former President and the main opposition leader Gayoom will not be arrested

    That is a lie by Dr Shaheed. They tried to arrest him last Sunday evening and to clear ExPresident’s supporters Police in riot gear used batons and tear gas. World should know that I think.
