Pedophilia – Reasons for worry

A Delhi court yesterday 13th December 2010, awarded death penalty to a man for raping and stabbing to death a 4 year old daughter of his colleague in 2005. The court said the action of the culprit , who was 26 years old then, was brutal and gruesome.

As a mother of 7 year old kid, this kind of news really worries me. These kinds of crimes are on a rise these days. Can a darling child at the age of 4 arouse the demon in a man to do such kind of act is a question of concern now. It is nothing but a personality and behaviour disorder in an adult.

In Medical terms, it is known as Pedophilia and it is defined as a psychiatric disorder in adults. Pedophilia means any sexual interest in children or the act of child sexual abuse. The person who is having this kind of disorder will have a sexual preference for children of pre- pubertal age. Here the pre-pubertal age is 13 years or younger than 13 years.

There is no concrete cure as yet but some clinical treatments are available for preventing or reducing the Pedophilia behaviour like clinical counseling, medications are used for lowering their sexual drive etc..

Normally, such crimes are done by known people only. We can control such crimes to a certain extend if we become more alert about our young ones. Don’t leave your kids with a third person other than mother and father. These days many crimes like child abuse by uncles, step fathers, servants at home, etc… As a parent we should be aware that the protection of our kid is in our hands only.
