Prime Minister is willing to come under the Lokpal Bill but not the cabinet

PM meeting with the editors of 5 print publications

Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, today had a meeting with five editors of different print publications and expressed his willingness in bringing him under the purview of the Lokpal but many of his Cabinet colleagues felt that bringing the institution of Prime Minister under Lokpal would create instability. He said he has no objection to Rahul Gandhi succeeding him as PM but said no such discussions were currently taking place within the ruling party.

PM dismissed talks of being a lameduck Prime Minister as ‘clever propaganda’ by the Opposition. He said the government find a way out on Lokpal and try for a consensus.

Normally shy and soft-spoken PM is planning to have regular meetings with the journalists as part of the government’s overall effort to fight against corruption, black money and inflation.
