Fathimath dhiyana saeed, first woman secretary general of saarc

It is the Maldives’ turn to lead the SAARC organisation. The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) is set to get its first woman secretary general from the Maldives, Fathimath Dhiyana Saeed – a 36-year-old Maldivian lawyer who was the former attorney general of the island nation. The SAARC Secretariat in Kathmandu has confirmed her appointment and will be in possession of her office from the 1st March, 2011 for a term of 3 years.

The 17th SAARC summit scheduled for Nov 10-11 will be hosted by the Maldives in the South Province.
