Satyamev Jayate – The Status of Medical Industry in India

I just watched this video, which is an episode from Amir Khan’s Satyamev Jayate. In this episode he is show how our medical system works and how some of our Doctors and Hospitals work. How our medical colleges work. When we see this episode, we come to know about many facts, which we all might have heard and some of us have experienced in our life.

I request you to watch this video below if you have not seen the program on TV (Star Plus). I missed to watch this episode when it was telecasted, but I watched this video fully. Most of the things discussed were known to me as I am also working in the Medical Industry.

We do look at our Doctors as God when we are sick and we do everything what our Doctor advices us. We trust that our Doctor would do the best to help us to come back to a normal state, but there are many who just do things which are against medical ethics for the sake of minting money. Our Medical Council of India seems to be a spineless body failing to take action against such criminals. Surgeries are done even if the patient does not need, medicines are prescribed even if it is not needed, investigations are told be done, even when the doctor knows, it is not necessary and all these for the sake of getting their pockets filled.

We do understand that a lot needs to be done to clean up this system. The private sector medical services are into all these practices. We all know that these un-ethical events are happening and we are now losing trust in our medical system. We always think about going for a second opinion before we agree upon for a surgery or any major procedures suggested by our Doctors. I am not saying that all our Doctors are like this, but majority of them are doing this. In this video you will see that in last 5 years, the Medical Council of India has not canceled any Doctor’s license permanently, but in UK, every year many Doctors lose their practicing licence. I would blame Medical Council of India for encouraging our Medical System to do this.

Hope our Doctors understand that they are doing wrong to the patients who come to them for help and they do the best to the patient without thinking about the money they make out of them.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has demanded an apology from actor Aamir Khan for insulting the profession on his new talk show Satyamev Jayate otherwise they will ask the people to boycott his movie as well as his new show. The reason for their threat is that the actor is sending wrong message to the society and this will spoil the relationship between the doctor and patient in the near future.

While talking to NDTV, bollywood superstar Aamir Khan today refused to apologise to the Indian Medical Association which has accused him of defaming the medical profession through his popular TV show Satyamev Jayate and said he is ready to face any legal action threatened by it.
