Supreme Court Decides to end Majlis recess – Maldives

image The Supreme court of Maldives has given an historical decision today.

The Supreme Court yesterday sentenced the People’s Majlis to end the member’s recess and to summon the People’s Majlis to complete the two bills related to Elections. The verdict also said that the Parliamentary Elections be held before February 15th and the new Majlis assembled by the date stated in the Constitution.


Supreme Court ends Majlis recess

The five member bench of the Maldives Supreme Court this Tuesday gave a unanimous decision that it was obligatory for the parliament and other relevant institutions of the state to do all that is necessary on their part to ensure that the first parliamentary elections are held and the first parliament is assembled under the constitution of 7 August 2008 as prescribed by it and by the dates provided in it.
