Will old version apps work on iOS 5?

iOS developers are testing the beta version of ios 5 and they are able to run apps written with the latest version of ios SDK.

Once iOS 5 is released, the existing apps will work fine and the new apps would also work which are written using the iOS 5 SDK.
Reason for this confusion is because the latest SDK has some great new features like ARC.
